Chess Class Introduction

Chess is an elegant intellectual game that is conducive to developing intelligence, improving memory, and training logical thinking.

This course is for beginners in chess. The content of the course is understanding chessboards and pieces; learning the basic rules of the six chess pieces; understanding several special rules; learning commonly used tactics for opening, middle and end games; and cultivate students’ keen observation and rich spatial imagination skills through chess games, so that they gradually attain a good quality of calmness with responses to various situations and following the rules.

Introduction of Chess teacher

Jiang Nan is a first-class chess player, a runner-up in the provincial chess tournament, and an excellent provincial chess coach. She has served as a referee in national, provincial, and municipal competitions. Engaged in children’s chess teaching for many years, many of her students have achieved excellent results in the national chess competition.

蒋楠,国际象棋一级棋士,省级国际象棋锦标赛亚军,国际象棋省级优秀教练员。多次在国家级、省级、市级比赛中担任裁判工作。从事儿童国际象棋教学多年,所教学生多人次在全国国际象棋比赛中取得优异的成绩。

本课程是针对国际象棋初学者所开设的。课程内容是:认识棋盘跟棋子;学习国际象棋六种棋子的基本走子规则;了解几种特殊规则;学习常用的开局、中局、残局知识;掌握常用的战术;学习棋局的记录方法。

通过有趣的国际象棋游戏培养学生们敏锐的观察力跟丰富的空间想象能力,使他们逐渐形成沉着冷静、遵守规则、胜不骄败不馁的良好品质

Math Class Introduction

Beast Academy curriculum

The curriculum that we use for the Math class is Beast Academy. It is published by the Art of Problem Solving® team, which has developed resources for outstanding math students since 1993.

Students learn problem-solving skills through rigorous math lessons taught by engaging, comic-book style characters. This curriculum provides interactive and fun ways to spark students’ interests in Math.

Introduction of Math teacher

The class will be taught by our after school program director Ada Huang, who has many years of childhood development and Math tutoring experience. Ms. Huang’s expertise is using various tools and illustrations that help students to understand difficult Math concepts. See below for more information and a complete curriculum!

Writing Class Introduction

Developing writing skills early in life is tied to long term academic and professional success. ACS offers a writing class that introduces different types of writing including descriptive, narrative, informative, persuasive, and analytical.

With consistent practice in writing, students can strengthen their critical and analytical skills, improve their organization of ideas, and enhance study outcomes. Writing is especially important for helping students to navigate through different stages of their academic life, ultimately aiding them in day-to-day activities such as completing projects, improving SAT scores, preparing for entrance exams, and gaining admission to early internship programs.

Introduction of Writing teacher

Our writing teacher Kelvin is an experienced private tutor committed to helping students realize their personal and academic goals. Equipped with a bachelor’s degree in Human Biology and two years of chief editing experience for UC Merced STEM-oriented writing curriculum, Kelvin has passed on his depth of knowledge in writing over the last six years.

Kelvin’s non-traditional style of teaching writing offers a new perspective by concentrating on writing materials that engage, challenge, and encourage students to work at an accelerated pace and aims to help students feel more confident, articulate, and ready for their futures. Over the last six years, Kelvin has helped countless students all around the Bay Area to master the craft of writing and has played an important role in guiding students towards acceptance into top-ranking public and private colleges.
